Intermediate Floral Design is the second course in the Master Floral Designer program and is designed to be taken after successful completion of the Fundamental Floral Design Course. This course will enhance and build on the skills developed in Fundamental Floral Design. It consists of seven sessions that are two and one half hours long for a total of 17 1/2 hours of instruction.
Intermediate Floral Design begins with a mini course which will explore the use of color in floral design and is a basic study of color for florists. The color wheel will begin the scientific study of color and the use of colors. Both basic and advanced color harmonies, and how they are used in floral design, will be discussed along with how the color relates to the principles of design. Students will also be provided with a number of easy to remember color combinations for flower designs. The course then turns to a brief study of oriental floral design. The remainder of the Intermediate Floral Design course will focus on different basic western floral design styles. This course is all about arrangements.
In this course students will blend the learning of traditional arrangement styles with the learning of contemporary arrangement styles. Students will learn the history of floral design and historical floral designs. Personal attention will be provided to each student from the instructor as the students complete their floral designs to take home. Students are encouraged to grow in their design skills by giving and receiving constructive criticism of the designs created in class by themselves as well as other students. Students are highly encouraged to also bring a camera to each class to photograph their arrangements; as well as the arrangements of all others in the class.
Unlike Fundamental Floral Design where all students worked in identical containers for each arrangement project, in this course students will be required to provide their own containers. A list of the needed containers will be provided to the students at the first class session,
Students must bring to each class, after the first class, their floral cutting tools and the needed container for that class, all other materials will be provided and have been included in the materials fee for this course
