Courses in floral design in reality do not cost but actually can be used to save money on floral arrangements for the home. Additionally, knowing floral design can save money by making floral gifts for friends and family. Training in floral design can even make money for the design students.

Opportunities available to newcomers in may other industries are shrinking; however, the same is no true in the floral industry. Flowers are a growth industry - every year more and more people are needed to fill the positions this growth creates.

Within retail floral design there are a number of employment opportunities. In addition to working in retail floral shops as designers, the sales people need to be knowledgeable about the design process to be able to discuss designs with the potential customers. Some knowledge of floral design is valuable to a delivery person for a retail florist so that the driver can properly restore a design should something damage it during transport.

In addition to the retail florist, there are floral design opportunities in department stores and craft stores that cater to "do-it-yourselfers."

There are also free-lance floral designers who do not work out of shops but work out of their homes. These designers sometimes cater to a special interest such as weddings, banquets and events, and other special areas and may team with a consultant in their particular area of interest. A floral designer may even team with a photographer who specializes in shooting interior scenes for advertisements and catalogs.

Though wholesale florists only sell the materials to make arrangements they too can use the special skills of a designer to be able to talk with knowledge to the floral designers to whom they are selling their supplies and to demonstrate how these supplies are properly used.

There is a "design circuit" for traveling designers who fly all over the country to demonstrate new design techniques and products at floral trade shows and like gatherings. Floral wire services also hire floral designers to travel and visit their member shops to assure that products are there and the design staff is able to duplicate the wire service designs.

Hotels and restaurants, interior decorators and window dressers; all are enhanced by a person who is knowledgeable about floral design.

The more you think of areas where the skills of a floral designer would be of advantage, the more the list grows as to the career opportunities.
